Used Car LoanWhether you call them ‘second-hand' or ‘pre-owned', buying a quality used car can be quite the challenge. Most used-car shoppers are ever in search of that rarity—a great car at a great deal. And while the idea of spending a Saturday out car hunting just sounds painful to many, things aren't so bad if you get a general idea of what you want and what you need before you get started. What to Look For You're not buying a new car. Get that out of your head right now. The story of the divorcee selling her husband's brand-new mustang for a dollar? Yes, that's just a story. Depending on the needs of the individual, what to look for in a car will vary. Are looks more important? Something that's great on gas? A vehicle that will keep going long after that "new car" sheen has disappeared? Somewhere in the middle of all of these? Whatever it is, make sure to know it and figure out which cars are best known for the characteristics that you're looking for. Where to Look For It Lucky for us, the information age has made it easier to get word out about the things we want to get rid of—even cars. Unfortunately, this huge selection can sometimes make things a little overwhelming. Traditional Used-Car Shopping – There are traditional avenues to pursue used cars such as newspapers and perusing the local dealer. While these options are convenient, they do often limit selection and, if you're picky about your cars, you'll often be disappointed when you have to settle for "close enough" to the image you had in your head. Shopping on the Internet – Buyers can now even use the internet to view and purchase cars. Sites such as eBay Motors allow buyers in Massachusetts to purchase cars as far away as California (maybe further), so long as they're willing to make arrangements to get it from West Coast to East. The advantage of this method of used-car browsing is a greater pool to choose from and a greater likelihood of finding all or most of the desired options than the local newspaper could not offer. The disadvantage, of course, being that it's a lot easier to meet up with the nice couple selling their VW across town and check out the vehicle first hand, it's a little harder to do that with a car a couple thousand miles away. There are certainly advantages and disadvantages to both. And while most people aren't really looking to buy a car from another country, or even the other side of their town, looking for one in the next state over might not be so bad. |
